Growing up in a small town in Japan, which is known as
the second most unreached country in today's world, Ryota and Shinobu had no access to the gospel of Jesus Christ nor Christians. In 2004, Ryota came to faith in Jesus through Chi Alpha Campus Ministries at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX as an international student. Not only did he come to the knowledge of saving grace found in Jesus Christ, but also he was discipled in its community to take spiritual responsibilities for others in God's mission. Since the beginning of the journey of his faith, he has had this conviction: What God has done in you, He wants
to do through you.
Upon graduation, he went back to Japan and served Chi
Alpha Japan and a local Assemblies of God church in
Tokyo as a volunteer staff while working full-time in the
marketplace for four years.

In 2011, he returned to the U.S. and pursued a M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Upon the completion of the program in 2012, he was invited to serve Chi Alpha San Antonio chapter as a Missionary Associate.

During this transition, he married to Shinobu, who also grew up in Japan, but came to faith in Jesus as an international student through Chi Alpha ministry at the University of Texas in Austin. She helps run ministry with Ryota while taking care of three children. Shinobu also works with Global University Japan translating materials into Japanese for local Japanese churches.

After serving Chi Alpha chapter in San Antonio, TX, Ryota received the lead missionary appointment from the Assemblies of God U.S. Missions to pioneer the Chi Alpha chapter at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Their vision for ministry comes from Psalm 96:3, which says, "Declare His glory among the nations; His wonders among all peoples." They are committed to building a community of all nations on the UTA campus, to transform the university, marketplace, and the world.
